At Houndsfield, we ensure our values are embedded in everything we do including our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) provision. As a school, we have high expectations for all children. We ensure that all children access our curriculum. Teachers scaffold learning to support children to achieve the learning in class and use a variety of strategies to support that as required according to the individual child’s needs.
We are very lucky to have lots in place to support inclusion of all children throughout our school and have a fantastic team to help support this.

Mrs Noreen Hines, Assistant Headteacher Inclusion | Ms Emine Huseyin, SENCo |
In the main school from Saplings Nursery to Year 6, all of our teachers are trained to support a wide range of children with needs. All staff have recently been ELKLAN trained which means they are trained to support children who have additional speech and language needs. Alongside this we have a wide range of training to support children with a wide range of needs including English as an additional language. This means lessons and learning are adapted to support as many children’s needs as possible.
For children who require additional support in Key Stage 2, we run additional fast track reading, writing and maths groups with the aim of accelerating children’s progress and ensuring the learning is pitched at where the child is working developmentally. These are run every day by our Assistant Headteachers and specialist teachers.
We have a team of specialist LSAs who also run additional interventions. These include:
Specialist Provisions
In Key Stage 1, we have a Nurture Class which is run by a qualified class teacher with support from a teaching assistant. A small group of children attend Nurture every morning and spend the afternoon with their class with the aim of supporting children’s social and emotional needs so that they are developmentally ready for learning. This links with our approach to children’s behaviour and mental health
We have a specialist Speech and Language Provision and Autism Units called Robins Class and Hedgehogs Class

Miss Sofina Kamall, Nurture Leader | Ms Shantelle Lloyd, Nurture Support Worker | Mrs Kate Roberts, School Counsellor |
We are fortunate to have a team to support children’s development and mental health. We do this through our Nurture Support Worker, Mrs Lloyds, who is available every day for children to talk to for support, whether it’s about a difficulty with another child or something that’s happened at home. We also have our Nurture Leader, Miss Kamall.
We are very lucky to also have our own school counsellor. Children are normally referred to work with our counsellor who will firstly speak with parents to get consent and inform families of the work she will be undertaking. Children will see the counsellor over a number of weeks. Parents can also ask to refer their child(ren) to our consellor – please speak to Mrs Hines if you would like more information.
